Cherokee wins Turkey Bowl

Posted Friday, November 23, 2007 by Doug Melegari

The Seneca Golden Eagles played their last football game of the 2007 season on Thanksgiving Day at Seneca High School. The football team played their last game of the season in front of a packed house. Thursday was the last day the seniors on the football team got to wear their jerseys as they have now officially ended their careers.

Seneca's Tim Meise scored a touchdown in the beginning of the game. Tom Schiraldi kicked his last good kick of his high school career following that touchdown. Perhaps the best play of the game, was Trent Waddle running nearly 45 yards for a Seneca Touchdown after a punt return. This totaled 13 points. However, Cherokee put up a fight as well and won after they earned 17 points by the end of the game. It was also the last touchdowns Meise and Waddle would ever make in their high school career.

The entire cheerleading squad was brought out to pump up the very large crowd that appeared before the football team. The marching band also made their last appearance of the football season during halftime. In a strange way, today's game reminded us of the season that it was. Another injury, this time involving Nick Greco. Bill Limpert briefly getting the wind knocked out of him providing for some "on edge moments", the same season we lost our starting quarterback to an injury.

The 2007 season has come to an end. The seniors on the team have had to say goodbye to the high school sport they love and will never forget. It is the sport that has defined this school, been a signficant part of our school community, and that has left a sizeable dent in the hearts of many.
